Connecting Cosmos & EVM 🤝

Cosmos is a network of sovereign blockchains or app-chains that have the ability to communicate with each other using its Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol (IBC). The Cosmos stack unlocks the ability to build apps that span multiple chains, creating a more open, interoperable, and scalable web3. However, Cosmos also faces the challenge of bridging the gap between its inner ecosystem and other web3 ecosystems — the largest being Ethereum.

Ethereum has the largest developer community in web3, with a rich set of tools and frameworks, and a vast amount of assets and protocols built on top of it. By connecting Cosmos and the EVM (not only Ethereum!), Evmos aims to bridge between the two, and allow developers & users to leverage the best of both worlds.

New Developer Experiences 🧑‍💻

Evmos is powered by Ethermint, a Tendermint-based consensus mechanism that enables EVM-compatible smart contracts to be deployed on Cosmos chains. But that’s far from being it… Developers can use their existing EVM tools like Truffle, Remix, Hardhat, or Metamask, to deploy and interact with smart contracts on Evmos 🤯

Thanks to EVM Extensions and Dynamic IBC, apps built on Evmos are highly customizable, with a wide range of unique cross-chain features that utilize IBC.

EVM Extensions unlock trustless asset transfers, token staking, seamless communication with other chains and even launching a new app on multiple Cosmos chains with a single deployment!
