Incentivized RPC Pools: September Report

Incentivized Public RPC
Lava Foundation
Oct 24, 2024

Introduction

Lava is a marketplace protocol connecting infrastructure Providers to Data Consumers. The protocol helps Providers offer their nodes and technical expertise to any chain, while earning tokens from those chains. Networks like NEAR, Cosmos Hub, Stargaze already host incentive pools on Lava and Providers receive useful tools to optimize and manage their service.

Join Lava - the unified marketplace for blockchain infrastructure.

This is a summary of September activity for the Incentive Pools on Lava. Incentive pools are hosted by blockchains, who reward the network for providing essential infrastructure such as RPC.

The September breakdown of participating Providers - including CU % and estimated rewards - can be found here.

September in numbers 🧮

This month, we observed a small number of providers participating with stakes that exceeded the permitted limit. To maintain fair participation and reward distribution, we implemented a penalty where 0-25% of their CU calculations were deducted, determined by the extent of their overstaking rate.

In line with last month’s announcement, we took additional measures to optimize the network’s performance by removing the long tail of low-performing providers—specifically, those who contributed less than 1% of the total CU were cut off from allocations. This adjustment aims to ensure that rewards are directed toward providers who deliver significant contributions to the network and helps providers focus their attention on chains where they have a greater chance of profitability.

Furthermore, as part of our ongoing transition efforts, all providers currently operating on the testnet are now required to migrate to the mainnet. Testnet incentives have officially ended, reinforcing the focus on mainnet stability and scalability.
