Introduction

Lava Network, the modular data network for scaling access to blockchains, and KYVE, the decentralized data validation protocol, have come together to further push their dedication to streamlining and enhancing the node runner experience.

From maximizing archival nodes to RPC and API support, and even syncing with entire chains in minutes, let’s explain how running on Lava and KYVE is making a difference in the node community.

Why You Should Run on Lava & KYVE

Operating a node on a blockchain requires technical savvy along with high infrastructure costs and resources, which is why it’s important to ensure you’re maximizing the overall value of managing your node. To do so, while also contributing to the streamlining of data for all, you can join KYVE and Lava’s networks!

Running on KYVE

For KYVE to archive and validate entire chains’ historical data in a decentralized way, its protocol validators must fetch the data, bundle and store it, and then vote on its validity. To complete these steps, protocol validators are required to run a separate node on the chain in question, like Cosmos Hub, Osmosis, Cronos, and more, in order to fetch the needed data. To maintain good behavior in the network, KYVE implements the DPoS mechanism.

Running on Lava

Lava Network is a network of node operators (“Providers”) that can quickly add, support and scale any in-demand API, on any chain. This modular approach is permissionless and incentivized, creating a dynamic economy for blockchain data. Anyone can contribute their nodes to Lava’s two-sided marketplace, with developers plugging Lava into their apps for RPC and APIs. The Lava protocol routes requests to the best available nodes on the network, based on latency, uptime, and accuracy.

Do you see the overlap?

If you’re running a node on, let’s say, Cosmos Hub, you can also spin up a validator on KYVE’s protocol and take part in its DPoS network to make historical data a trustless public good, as well as be eligible to join Lava Network’s provider program.

Sync With Entire Chains In Minutes Via KYVE’s KSYNC Tool

With KYVE archiving and validating entire chains from Genesis to live height onto Arweave (a permanent data storage platform), this trustless data backup is a great resource for nodes aiming to sync with supported chains.

Seeing that archival nodes are not incentivized, and it can take a lot of time and resources to find the data one might need to catch up and join a network, KYVE brought forward a new tool called KSYNC

KSYNC leverages the trustless historical data backups from KYVE to enable anyone to rapidly sync with the supported chains. More specifically, syncing to any historical block, state, or even height.

For example, Lava providers can already easily sync with Cosmos Hub, Axelar, Cronos, Osmosis, and Archway. Visit KYVE’s web app to try out the auto-generated commands!

Lava offers Incentivized Public RPC for node operators

Node operators on KYVE can already use Lava to get RPC access to 30+ networks, including Ethereum, Cosmos Hub, Polygon, Base, Solana, and more.

Lava is in testnet and has created a unique approach to incentivization by partnering with rollups and blockchains directly. Node operators can take part in Incentivized Public RPC programs - join Lava, serve RPC for a chain, and get paid in that chain’s native token. Ecosystems like NEAR, Evmos, Axelar are already paying node operators to serve RPC through Lava, and developers benefit from the efficient performance routing Lava protocol provides. More chains like Starknet, Filecoin, Koi and Agoric are coming soon to the programme.

Anyone can get RPC from Lava by using their gateway, SDK or server kit

Anyone, including KYVE validators, can also extend Lava’s support to more chains and APIs by adding modules called “specs”. Specs are simple JSON files defining the methods of an API and their computational cost. The guide to building a spec is here.

Looking Forward

– “We’re delighted to support KYVE, a project with similar aspirations as Lava - to make blockchains accessible and easy to build on. Node operators are fundamental to web3 - they can now find opportunities in both KYVE and Lava ecosystems. - Yair Cleper, co-founder at Lava

– "By leveraging KYVE Network and Lava Network’s data strengths, this partnership unlocks new opportunities for trustless data innovation and is a great step forward in creating a more streamlined and reliable data experience for all building and participating in Web3." -- Troy Kessler, Lead Developer at KYVE.

Collaborate ahead of Mainnet in Q1 2024

Lava is a single network for fast, reliable and cost-efficient access to any blockchain. Its first service is to provide a performant RPC solution for developers and users, and it will later expand to any type of data infrastructure e.g. indexing and oracles.

If you’re looking to grow with us as we move towards Mainnet, we are already working with:

  • Ecosystems - on supporting their public RPC needs
  • Dapps - on serving them fast and reliable multi-chain responses
